Parish Parish Council Reports from Nov 11 Magazine

Ufford Parish Council meeting on Sept 13th

1.    Ufford Hill trees.  Following a site visit by the representative of Enterprise Peterborough, the organisation responsible for grass cutting, and an examination of the damage done by strimmers, it was agreed that the trees will be replaced if they die.
2.    Ufford Hill verge.  The parish council is fully aware of the hazards involved in grass cutting on the steep and uneven bank of Ufford Hill and it was agreed that for a trial period of one year, after the daffodil leaves are cut in May/June the grass will be cut only along a 1 metre strip beside the footway and visibility strips.  The remainder will evolve into a wildflower meadow.  A number of interesting plants already grow there and the purchase of plugs of additional wild flowers will be considered next spring.
3.    Trees on Main Street verges.  The proposal was rejected because the view of the old buildings is preferred by most residents.
4.    It was agreed that UPC should respond in the consultation about the controversial National Planning Policy Framework and in a Peterborough Planning Forum, with the theme of Sustainable Development in Barnack Ward?
5.    The next meeting will be at 7.30pm on Tuesday November 8th at Ufford Village Hall.

Queens Jubilee Celebrations

The Parish councils have been asked to celebrate the Queens Jubilee next year - Bainton and Ashton are planning on holding a village celebration and have some initial ideas but would like to invite anyone who would care to offer ideas or help to come along to a meeting in the reading room on 8th November 2011 at 7:30 pm .

Barnack Parish Council

The October meeting of Barnack Parish Council took place at the Village Hall on Monday 10 October. Five members of the public were present together with PC Norman McCallum. Members of the council were sorry to learn that Mrs Dolby had resigned from the council due to ill health. The vacancy will be advertised on the parish council notice boards. The highways officer has still not installed the 20 m.p.h. signs on Bainton Road despite numerous requests from the Parish Council. A letter will now be written to Gillian Beasley, the Chief Executive to PCC. The date will be sought for the commencement of work for lowering the kerbs around the Village Information Board and for the work to restrict the width of the entrance and exit to the slip road behind the war memorial to reduce the speed of traffic exiting on to Stamford Road. The speed watch board was used very successfully this last month targeting the speeding traffic on the B1443. There are now three teams of volunteers using the board. Two more volunteers are needed for Barnack and three for Pilsgate. Anyone wishing to help with this work for an hour a month should contact the Parish Clerk or PC McCallum. Grit bins are to be sited around the village this month in six locations in preparation for the winter weather. Trees will be planted on the Uffington Road and to replace the dead trees on Stamford Road. The Village Walks Leaflets have been reprinted and will be available in the Parish Church and the Post Office.  PC McCallum reminded residents that if they are suspicious of any situation, they should  ring 999 in order that each incident is given a crime number.  If it is not recorded in writing by the police, it will not be included in the crime figures which are used to allocate police time. Report everything as police officers are located in the areas that have reported crimes.  There is a new number to contact the Police for non-emergency calls and for reporting crimes.  This is 101 which will be used nationally.  Everyone is encouraged to join e-cops to keep up-to-date with information from the Police. The Jubilee Committee reported that they are planning a full timetable of events for all age groups for June 3 and June 4 2012 culminating with a hog roast and firework display on the Monday evening. During the Open Forum a petition was presented, to be passed on to PCC, to ask for traffic calming on the B1443 and the C40. The council was asked to write again the Highways Agency requesting the slip lane to be widened on the A1, at the exit for Barnack, for the litter to be picked up throughout the village and a further request for permission for pedestrians to walk down the field boundary alongside the road running down Pilsgate Hill.
The next Parish Council meeting will be on Monday 14 Nov in the Village Hall at 7.30 p.m.. All  welcome. Full copies of the minutes are  on the village notice boards.
