Pause for Thought April 2010

Firstly, can I say a big thank you to everyone who sent good wishes on my move and thanks to all church members who gave so generously that I not only have lovely gifts to remember you all, but also the opportunity to spend some time shopping for my new home.

I think more than any other move, this one had to be the most traumatic and it took me much longer than I thought to down size and actually get out of the Rectory. If anything was going to go wrong, it went wrong!! I thought it was a good idea to move during half term so that my teacher son would be able to help - he went down with a stomach bug that kept him in bed for virtually the whole week; the front door at the new house had swollen and had to be forced open - once inside one couldn’t get out; then there is the complex heating system that no-one seems to know how to work and a month on I still don’t know how to get hot water on a permanent basis.

Then there was all the rubbish that accumulated in the Rectory garage - what do you do with that? Oh yes, and do you know that if you change your phone number it will take at least ten working days to get your email running and then you will find yourself on a month’s trial period - I haven’t achieved the ten days yet - so goodness knows what will happen in the next month! Then there are two puzzled dogs - Flick thinks it is best to bark at everything, just to warn me about the dangers of the new place I have bought her to live in, and Barni, having just moved, was summoned for his annual vet check, to find he had to have some teeth removed (I think vets must use gold-plated tools!) so he is sitting here looking really miserable.

But someone told me to count my blessings - so - my son-in-law and daughter worked their socks off to cover for the sick son, it stopped raining and the front door started working properly, David and Lisa turned up at just the right moment and helped cart stuff from the Rectory and set up the computer, so it is ready to receive broadband when it comes through; Lee came to marriage preparation and then offered to clear the garage for me, and Flick likes her new walks and once Barni has recovered some more, he will feel so much better.

You see I believe in angels - and although mine came in various guises - you never are really left alone. God will provide and it is always at the moment you are most in need. Please do come and visit - but if it is a wet day, you might be asked to kick the front door! And do have a wonderful Easter - celebrate the resurrection life!
